Purpose of this release
====================================================================================
Supported features:
- Up-version a radio to software version R05.08.05 from previous released versions.
- For models PMUF1112A and PMUF1112B, due to the enhancement on 700M reband,
the whole codeplug will be overwritten with the new default codeplg file,
Note that none of the CPS programming data will be preserved during upgrade,
so user has to reconfigure all the CPS settings after upgrade.
- For models PMUD1766A and PMUD1766B, due to the codeplug tanapa change,
the whole codeplug will be overwritten with the new default codeplug file,
Users need to follow the instructions prompted to save the settings with CPS
before upgrade, and then restore back the settings after upgrade.
- The tuning data and the CPS programming data will be preserved excluded for 4 models mention above.

- Only official radio software release version and bands.

WARNING

PLEASE READ: WARNING'S FOR ALL RADIO TYPES
PLEASE SAVE YOUR EXISTING CODEPLUG AS AN ARCHIVE FILE. The codeplug programming
information may be lost after the update process therefore, it is recommended to
read the radio using the CPS, and save an archive of the radio's codeplug before
starting the update process. After the update, this archive can now be used to
recover the codeplug programming information by programming the archive back into
the radio.

Ensure the radio updating process is not interrupted. Interruption will cause the
radio not to operate anymore and attempting to update the radio again will NOT be
successful.

Do NOT create a shortcut of the program (e.g. on your desktop), the program might
not be able to find the data files in that case!

Do not remove the programming cable or turn off the radio while the update is in progress.

In case of failure during the updating, a message box will appear to guide the user
to recover from the failure, if possible.

The flashing rate can be changed only by restarting the program.

You may not run more than one copy of the program at the same time.

Baud rate 115k can only be supported by certain Radio Interface Boxes (RIB).
Use 19k baud rate when using a RIB. RKN4075A RIBless cable supports 115k baud.

How to install and run this software
===========================================================
Installation of the software can be completed by double clicking
the setup file "FirmwareKit_Conv_Mobile_R050805.exe",and can be
started through Programs Menu.



REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
For the usage of this software the following radio accessories
are required:
- Flash adapter, P/N HLN9742, RIB programming cable, P/N AARKN4083A
and RIBless programming cable, P/N AARKN4081B the Flash adapter has to be connected between the PC and the RIBless programming cable.

For Flash Adapter HLN9742B, "Flash mode on" means switch to
i) Position "B", For RIBless programming cable, P/N AARKN4081B
ii) Position "A", For RIB programming cable, P/N AARKN4083A

The following instructions detail the operations of the Firmware Kit:
(Note: These instructions must be followed in the exact order to work properly):

1. Power on the radio. If the ignition is on, turn off all other accessories to
ensure the quietest possible environment. Do not run the engine during this
procedure.
2. (i) For Ribless cable
--------------------
Connect the AARKN4081B programming cable to the microphone jack of the radio.
The Programming cable is connected to the adapter, and the adapter is
connected to the computer serial port (9 pin) through the 25 to 9 pin Converter.
Note: the Converter is not requiring if serial port is 25 pin.

(ii) For Rib Cable
----------------
Connect the AARKN4083A programming cable to the rear connector of the radio.
The Programming cable is connected to RLN4008E Radio Interface Box and it connected
to the computer serial port by RIB to PC cable, P/N 3080369B72 (9pin) or 3080369B71 (25pin)
Note: The Converter is not requiring if serial port is 25 pin.
: Maximum baud rate for this equipment is 19,200 Bd.

3. If you using a laptop ensure that "Transmit Buffer" in the Advanced Port Settings
window is not positioned at the highest setting. See troubleshooting section
"Adjusting Transmit Buffer" below for details.

4. Make sure that the switch in the HLN9742B adapter is in the OFF position.

5. Start the Firmware Kit by going to Programs-> Motorola-> Professional Series Radio Firmware Kit
-> Mobile Firmware Kit R05.08.05-> Firmware Kit R05.08.05 for Mobile Radios.




6. Once the upgrade screen appears, press the PROGRAM button.



7. For the first attempt of upgrade after the tool is launched, the flash baud
rate selection dialog will appear. Select a baud rate and press OK button.

8. A message box will appear with instructions to put the radio in bootstrap
mode.
Turn the radio to bootstrap mode by follow the following steps.
- Move the flash adapter switch (HLN9742B) to the "B" position for RIBless cable or "A" position for RIB cable.
- Press the ON/OFF button on the radio 2 times, waiting a minimum of 1 second between presses.
This process puts the radio into bootstrap mode.

NOTE: Please be aware, when pressing the ON/OFF button,you will not recieve any response from the radio.
This is normal operation for putting the radio into a mode for flasing.
Without the 1 second wait time, the radio will not properly go into bootstrap mode.

9. After clicking Ok, upgrading should begin if properly put in bootstrap mode.

10. If the radio is not properly put in bootstrap mode, a message box will appear with instructions to set the
radio in bootstrap mode again.
- Flashing operation could not be started.
- The radio may not be in bootstrap mode.
- Caution: Carefully follow these instructions to restore the radio.
Do not press "OK" until after steps 1 thru 3 have been performed.
1. Switch the flash adapter back to OFF position.
2. Disconnect and reconnect the radio's power supply.
3. If the radio is off, turn it back on by pressing the ON/OFF button.
4. Press "OK" and try to "Program" again.

11. When the process is complete, return the flashing switch to the OFF position
before disconnecting the cable from the radio or powering it up. The radio
will power off when the cable is removed.

12. Connect another radio and repeat from step 5. Remember, the baud rate
selection is done only the first time after starting up the program.

13. After upgrading all radios, remove the flashing adapter.

TROUBLESHOOTING
============================================================================
If Firmware Kit will not start
1. Make sure this is an original version of the kit and not copied off another computer
2. Make sure another copy is not running on your computer.

If an error is returned when you select program, check the following:
1. On the Comm setting menu, make sure that the port selected is the one to which the radio is connected.
2. Make sure the radio is on and properly connected to the computer.
3. Make sure the HLN9742B adapter is in the OFF position.

If an error is returned immediately after the radio is put in bootstrap and Ok is clicked put the adapter in the OFF position, put the radio off, on and try again.

Adjusting Transmit Buffer:
1. Press Start button.
2. Select Setting and click on Control Panel.
3. Double click on System.
4. Select the Device Manager tab and double click on the Communication Port (COM1).
5. Select the Port Settings tab and click on the Advanced button.
6. Adjust the Transmit Buffer to one step lower than the highest.

Ensure radio flashing is not interrupted. Interruption will cause the radio
not to operate anymore. Trying to flash the radio again will not work.
The radio has to be returned to the depot for service.
