Kenwood KPG-62D (TK-285 TK-385 TK-785 TK-885)

You can program the TK-285/385/785/885 transceiver with the KPG-62D programming software.
We recommend you input all the necessary programming data and save the data to the PC using this software. After this is completed, program the transceiver using the stored data. Print out the programming data if desired.
You can also retrieve the transceiver data in order to modify it on the PC.

SUPPLIED ITEMS
The KPG-62D programming software package includes:
3 floppy disks (3.5", 1.44MB)
Installation manual

APPLICABLE TRANSCEIVERS
This programming software supports the TK-285/385/785/885 transceiver.
INTRODUCTION

HARDWARE/ SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
Computer : The software is designed to run on an IBM PC, PS/2, and compatible PCs.
Operating system (OS) : The PC must use the MS-Windows 95 operating systems (or a later version of MS-Windows).
Communication port : The PC must have a serial communication port. The communication port must be compatible with IBM PC asynchronous communications adapter specifications. You may use the COM1, COM2, COM3 or COM4 port on the PC.
Connecting a transceiver to the PC : Use the optional KPG-36 (for portable radio) or KPG-46 (for mobile radio) interface cable to connect the transceiver to the PC.

CONNECTING THE EQUIPMENT
PROCEDURE

1. Make sure the PC power is off.
2. Connect the 25-pin connector (DB25) of the KPG-36/46 cable to the PC COM1, COM2, COM3 or COM4 port. If the COM port has only 9 pins (DB9), use a plug adapter to convert the DB25 to a DB9.
3. Turn the PC on.
4. Make sure the transceiver power is off.
5. Connect the universal connector of the KPG-36/46 cable to the transceiver microphone connector.
6. Turn the transceiver on.

INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
After connecting the transceiver to the PC (with the KPG-36/46 cable), you are ready to install the KPG-62D programming software.

INSTALLING the KPG-62D PROGRAMMING SOFTWARE TO YOUR HARD DISK

1. Insert the KPG-62D Setup DISK into drive A.
2. Open Explorer (File managing application), and select A:.
3. Select Setup.exe.
The installation program copies the necessary files from drive A to the hard disk.

PROGRAMMING OVERVIEW
PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE
This section explains three typical programming operations.

Note: When the programming data is transferred from the PC to the transceiver (writing the programming data) or vice versa (reading the programming data), the transceiver will automatically enter PC mode. -PROGRAM- appears on the display.

CREATING AND WRITING NEW DATA TO A TRANSCEIVER

1. Specify the transceiver model you want to program. (Model)
2. Input all necessary data. (Edit, Network Data, Channel Data, and Personal Data)
3. Write the data to the transceiver. (Program/Write to transceiver)
4. Copy the data to a disk if necessary. (File/Save As)
MODIFYING DATA PREVIOUSLY WRITTEN TO A TRANSCEIVER

1. Read the transceiver data. (Program/Read from transceiver)
2. Modify the data. (Edit, Network Data, Channel Data, and Personal Data)
3. Write the modified data to the transceiver. (Program/Write to transceiver)
4. Copy the data to a disk if necessary. (File/Save As)
MODIFYING DISK DATA, THEN WRITING TO A TRANSCEIVER

1. Read the disk data. (File/Open)
2. Modify the data. (Edit, Network Data, Channel Data, and Personal Data)
3. Write the data to the transceiver. (Program/Write to transceiver)
4. Copy the data to a disk if necessary. (File/Save As)

STARTING THE PROGRAM
After installing the software, you can immediately program and TK-285/385/785/885 transceiver.

Select the KPG-62D icon in the start menu. The program starts and the top menu screen appears.

EXITING THE PROGRAM
When you finish programming the transceiver, select Exit from the File menu.

INITIAL SCREEN
First, set up the model of the transceiver.

The top menu screen consists of a menu bar (top) and a blank window.

The menu bar shows the available pull-down title menus. Use the menus to open windows so that you can edit and/or process data, and execute commands.
